The Realme Book seems to have been the talk of the town for quite some time, with leaks and rumours revealing key details such as the processor and, more importantly, the design, which seems rather inspired by Cupertino-based giant Apple’s MacBook lineup of laptops. Recently, however, the Chinese giant revealed that it would finally be launching the Realme Book Slim in India on August 18, confirming the name itself, which hints at the laptop being rather slim in comparison to Xiaomi, HP and Dell’s offerings. Today, it was revealed that the Realme Book Slim would come with a feature that sets it apart from most budget and mid-range laptops, and one that can make the buying decision much easier for some, if not most.
What is This New Feature?
A source familiar with the product reached out to Android Authority and informed the publication that the Realme Book Slim would come with a feature dubbed PC Connect. The naming is quite obvious, but for those of you still unaware, this feature will allow the user to connect their phone to the PC through Wi-Fi Direct. This works by mirroring your mobile phone’s display on the laptop screen, which, effectively will allow the users to connect and access the applications present on their smartphone, make calls and do other tasks that are not possible with laptops, whilst also having access to Windows. The clip from Android Authority reveals that PC Connect would allow the user to easily and rapidly share files across both laptops and smartphones, with it also mentioning a Smart Application Integration, which basically means that the files present on the phone can be easily opened on the desired PC applications. This is not the first time that such a feature is being introduced, since both Huawei and Xiaomi have offered the feature. Microsoft also offers such functionalities with its Your Phone app for Windows. Do note that Huawei’s take uses NFC, allowing the user to place their handset on the trackpad to get up and running. What is sad however is that such a solution from an OEM is not compatible with devices from other brands, which, as per the source could be the case with Realme Book Slim’s PC Connect feature. If this feature does do well in India and users are genuinely intrigued, it would make sense for Google to offer some method of allowing similar functionalities for Android handset users.
